A federal judge restores the DACA program today after attempts by the current administration to end it in 2017. This is clearly big news for undocumented immigrants in the U.S.
According to the New York Times, it was U.S. District Judge Garaufis who reinstated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Also stating, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must announce the changes to the program after the weekend.
The change will allow the DHS to continue to accept applications and process work permits. The program currently has over 600,000 “dreamers” enrolled. According to CBS, an estimated one million undocumented immigrant youth are projected to apply in the near future.
